Before consonants, x is pronounced [ks] (with emphasis) or [s] (relaxed): texto, extraño, excusa…
- In Spanish, the vocal chords don’t vibrate when pronouncing this sound.
- Remember: México and Texas are pronounced with the [x] sound.

Remember:
One-syllable words don’t have accent marks:
- seis, mil, cien, ven, sol…
Words with the stress on the last syllable have an accent mark if they end in a vowel or in –s or –n:
- veintitrés, treintaidós, millón, veintiún, menú…
Las palabras con acento en la penúltima sílaba tienen tilde si acaban en consonante que no sea –s / –n:
- árbol, lápiz, ángel…
Words with the stress on the third-to-last syllable always carry an accent mark:
- décimo, séptimo, música…
