There are various types of accents in Spanish:
- One syllable accented words: ver, hay.
- Words with the accent on the last syllable: sofá, salón, televisión.
- Words with the accent on the second-to-last syllable: vaso, dinero, libro.
- Words with the accent on the third-to-last or earlier syllables: bolígrafo, teléfono, frigorífico.
Listen and then repeat the following words and clearly stress the accent: |

SONIDO [θ] Y LETRAS C Y Z / THE [θ] SOUND AND THE LETTERS C AND Z
To pronounce the [θ] sound:
- Place the tongue between the upper and lower teeth.
- Blow air through the teeth.
- The vocal chords don’t vibrate.
Remember that the [θ] sound is written: |
- c + e/i: cigarrillo, cocina, cerrar, noticia, central
- z + a/o/u: zumo, zapato
- vowel + z: vez, voz
The letters –cc– are pronounced [kθ] o [gθ]: acción |
Words ending in –z in the singular change to –ces in the plural: |
